My professional qualifications and work were initially within educational and social psychology. In the 1980’s, I trained as a humanistic counsellor and as a Gestalt therapist at Metanoia Institute, London. Having qualified with Edinburgh Gestalt Institute, I am an accredited psychotherapist and supervisor with GPTI. I have also done couples training with the Gestalt International Study Centre, Cape Cod.
In my private practice, I work with individuals and couples who experience challenges or difficulties in their personal or professional lives. Sometimes our way of being can limit our contact and communication with others. The therapeutic relationship enables you to express uncertainties, explore unfinished situations, develop awareness, create new possibilities and make different choices of how you want to live your life. Therapy is a unique growth process which has taught me the importance of creating satisfying and meaningful relationships both with oneself and with others.
My work with couples is based in a Gestalt and systemic approach. I build on the competence that exists in the relationship – what is well developed (including arguing!) – and support what needs to be developed further.
I also work in Occupational Health, as an associate NHS staff counsellor as well as with other organisations. Recently, I have reduced my hours doing such short-term work, as I experience long-term therapy as being more meaningful.
I am a supervising member, SM of GPTI and I supervise counsellors and psychotherapists from various modalities. Supervision is offered in Perth and in Edinburgh
In my recreational time I do ceramics, playing with shapes and forms – greatly inspired by nature. Music gives me a lot of pleasure. I also enjoy the outdoors and find peace and rejuvenation in walking and cross-country skiing.
Please get in touch if you want to discuss working together.
