I’m Chris and I’m a fully qualified psychotherapist, counsellor and supervisor. I’ve practised privately for over 13 years and have worked in NHS Primary Care, with EAP providers and for the HE Sector. I offer a professional, friendly, safe and effective service. I offer long-term and short-term therapy and personal development work and specialize in treating anxiety and depression, abuse, relationship difficulties, sexual issues, anger problems, bereavement and workplace-related stress. I welcome you in your wholeness; your thoughts, emotions, sexuality and spirituality, your difficulties and strengths and unique history. I aim to respond to you from the depth of my listening and experience, to respect any cultural differences and individual preferences and help you in developing enough support and insight to make the changes or choices that, on your own, have seemed elusive or impossible. I am a humanistic practitioner, with a Diploma in Counselling, MSc in Gestalt Psychotherapy (Metanoia) and Certificate in Supervision (CSTD). My fees are £50 for Counselling/Psychotherapy, £45 for Supervision (£40 Students). I sometimes have some concessionary places.
My wider interests include teaching and studying, music, meditation, exercise and reading. I consider myself a tolerant person with a sense of humour and a balanced viewpoint.
I have been supervising counsellors and psychotherapists since 2005 and currently work both with individual supervisees and a supervision group. I am Registered with UKCP and BACP as a supervisor. I supervise qualified practitioners and trainees who have a predominantly Humanistic style (including those on Integrative courses). I have taught Person-centred Counselling although my core modality is Gestalt.
My philosophy and style as a supervisor have emerged from both my broad work experience (in the voluntary sector, public sector, school teaching, NHS Primary Care and the University sector) and also from my personal journey (on which music and the arts and Buddhist philosophy and practice have made a deep impression ). My supervision style is an integration of my pedagogic skills, creativity and curiosity, combined with faith in -and lived experience of- gestalt theory and practice. I aim to balance my confidence and experience with the humility of finding myself always a learner too. I look to balance the supportive, educative and managerial aspects of supervision and to emphasise the aspect which most fits the circumstances. I pay attention to building a supervisory alliance through open communication and seek to model willingness to hear and engage with difficulties while maintaining resilience and valuing the ongoing relationship.
I see Supervisess both at my B9 practice address and my home address in B14.
